History of Library

There are the various viewpoints about the history of the Library of congress. Some people says that this library was present in the Washington before 1800. But the other sources such as official website of library says that the library was established in 1800. In 1800 the library has to be given the aid of 5000 US dollars so that it can purchase the books which are needed to the members of congress, as the congress building was also transferred to Washington. In 1814 when the British soldiers are on charge, they have fired many buildings in capital Washington. This fire was spread towards Library of Congress and burnt all of the books in it. Then at that time, former President Thomas Jefferson sold the books from his personal library to the Library of Congress. The purchase of 6487 books was approved by Congress for library. This collection of books contains the books on almost all major topics. In 1851, once again a fire broke out which burnt the three-fourth of the books in library.
